Warten combines with auf and an accusative complement when you name what you are waiting for.

The idea

Use auf den Bus or auf mich. Ask Worauf? for a thing and Auf wen? for a person. The participle is gewartet, and duration can be added with seit.

Watch out

Warten auf takes accusative: auf den Zug, auf mich. Ask Worauf? about a thing and Auf wen? about a person; avoid translating a preposition word for word.
