The idea

Betreffen means to concern or affect and takes an accusative object: “Das betrifft uns.” If you prefer a preposition, use gelten für: “Gilt das auch für unsere Küche?” “Angekündigt” is a past participle used as an adjective, so it takes adjective endings: die angekündigte Unterbrechung. “Aber” can sit in the middle of a clause to mark contrast: “Unsere Wohnung liegt aber im Hinterhaus.” Notices often use nouns such as Unterbrechung, Abstellung or Wartungsarbeiten.

Other ways to say it

“Gilt die Wasserabstellung auch für das Hinterhaus?” – Neutral alternative with gelten für; easy to build.

“Haben wir am Donnerstag auch kein Wasser?” – Very plain spoken version between neighbours.

Watch out

“Betrifft die Unterbrechung auch für unsere Küche?” → “Betrifft die Unterbrechung auch unsere Küche?”: Learners mix betreffen with gelten für. Betreffen takes its object directly in the accusative; only gelten needs für.

Try it yourself

  1. Translate into German: Does the announced interruption also affect our kitchen?

    Show answer or example answer

Betrifft die angekündigte Unterbrechung auch unsere Küche?

The verb “Betrifft” opens the question; the subject “die angekündigte Unterbrechung” follows, and “unsere Küche” is the accusative object.

  2. Put the words in order: aber / Hinterhaus / im / liegt / Unsere / Wohnung

    Show answer or example answer

Unsere Wohnung liegt aber im Hinterhaus.

“Aber” in the middle marks the contrast with the front building; “im Hinterhaus” is dative for location.

  3. Write this sentence in German: I will read the building numbers carefully again.

    Show answer or example answer

Ich lese die Hausnummern noch einmal genau.

“Noch einmal genau” stacks two adverbs: again and carefully; “die Hausnummern” is the plural accusative object.
