The idea

A message to a friend uses du and a simple greeting such as “Hallo Lea”. Offers are built with “kann ich” or “ich helfe gern beim + nominalised verb” (beim Aufstellen, beim Aufräumen). A wenn-clause makes an extra offer sound optional: “Wenn du möchtest, bringe ich …”. Because the wenn-clause fills the first position, the main verb comes right after the comma. Close with a question that lets the host choose, then a short “Bis Samstag!” or “Liebe Grüße”.

Other ways to say it

“Soll ich dir beim Aufbau helfen?” – Short, friendly question; ideal for a quick chat message.

“Sag Bescheid, wenn du noch Geschirr brauchst.” – Casual offer of something specific to lend.

“Ich könnte auch einen Salat mitbringen.” – Polite Konjunktiv II; sounds modest and leaves room to say no.

Für deine Einweihungsfeier kann ich früher vorbeikommen.

Ich helfe gern beim Aufstellen der Tische.

Wenn du möchtest, bringe ich außerdem zwei große Schüsseln mit.

Sag mir bitte, welche Hilfe dir am wichtigsten ist.

Ich kann ab vierzehn Uhr bei dir sein.

Dann bleibt vor der Feier genug Zeit für den Aufbau.

Watch out

“Ich helfe gern mit dem Aufstellen der Tische.” → “Ich helfe gern beim Aufstellen der Tische.”: English “help with” leads learners to “mit”. For an activity, helfen takes bei + dative: beim Aufstellen, beim Kochen.

Try it yourself

  1. Translate into German: I can come early for your housewarming party.

    Show answer or example answer

Für deine Einweihungsfeier kann ich früher vorbeikommen.

“Für deine Einweihungsfeier” comes first for context, so “kann” follows in second place; “vorbeikommen” is a separable verb that stays whole as an infinitive at the end.

  2. Put the words in order: außerdem / bringe / du / große / ich / mit / möchtest / Schüsseln / Wenn / zwei

    Show answer or example answer

Wenn du möchtest, bringe ich außerdem zwei große Schüsseln mit.

The wenn-clause takes the first position, so the main clause starts with the verb “bringe”. The separable prefix “mit” closes the sentence after the objects.

  3. Write this sentence in German: That leaves enough time for setup before the party.

Dann bleibt vor der Feier genug Zeit für den Aufbau.

“Dann” links back to the arrival time; the verb “bleibt” comes second, and the subject “genug Zeit” follows the time phrase “vor der Feier”.
