The idea

Comparisons use the comparative + als (wichtiger als). Für mich marks a personal view more modestly than meiner Meinung nach. Trotzdem concedes a point for the other side; jedoch limits it again. Ich wünsche mir is a polite way to state what you want. The final sentence uses statt … zu + infinitive to contrast two ways of learning. This concession structure makes an opinion text sound fair rather than one-sided.

Other ways to say it

“Mir hilft ein kurzer Kommentar mehr als eine Note.” – Simple and direct; helfen takes the dative mir.

“Punkte allein sagen mir nicht, was ich verbessern soll.” – Neutral argument that names the weakness of scores.

Watch out

“Feedback ist für mich wichtiger wie eine bloße Punktzahl.” → “Feedback ist für mich wichtiger als eine bloße Punktzahl.”: After a comparative, standard German uses als. Wie is used for equality (so wichtig wie). “Wichtiger wie” is heard in some regional speech but counts as wrong in writing.

Try it yourself

  1. Translate into German: For me, understandable feedback on homework is more important than a mere score.

Bei Hausaufgaben ist verständliches Feedback für mich wichtiger als eine bloße Punktzahl.

“Bei Hausaufgaben” sets the context, so “ist” comes second. The comparison “wichtiger als” links the two options, and “bloße” means mere, adding a slight judgement.

  2. Put the words in order: Eine / einen / geben / kann / Punktzahl / schnellen / trotzdem / Überblick

Eine Punktzahl kann trotzdem einen schnellen Überblick geben.

“Trotzdem” concedes a point despite the previous argument. “Einen schnellen Überblick geben” is a common phrase; the accusative masculine takes -en.

  3. Write this sentence in German: That lets me practise specifically instead of merely seeing the result.

Damit kann ich gezielt weiterüben, statt nur das Ergebnis zu sehen.

“Damit” here means “with that”, referring to the specific notes. “Statt nur das Ergebnis zu sehen” is an infinitive clause with statt … zu, placed after a comma.
