The idea

Such a message to a friend uses du and a factual tone. Report the return in the perfect (“habe … vorbeigebracht”), state completeness (“alle geliehenen Teile”), then describe the flaw with “mir ist … aufgefallen”. “Ich weiß nicht, ob …” expresses honest uncertainty. Ask the owner to check with the du imperative “sieh dir … an” (sich etwas ansehen). Finish by offering to discuss together, which signals you will take responsibility if needed.

Other ways to say it

“Mir ist am Zelt eine kleine Stelle aufgefallen, die ich dir zeigen möchte.” – Neutral; announces the issue without details.

“Falls die Naht durch mich aufgegangen ist, kümmere ich mich darum.” – Friendly offer to take responsibility.

Watch out

“Ich weiß nicht, wenn sie schon vorher vorhanden war.” → “Ich weiß nicht, ob sie schon vorher vorhanden war.”: English “if” can mean “whether”, but German keeps them apart: an indirect yes/no question needs ob; wenn is for conditions and times.

Try it yourself

  1. Translate into German: I returned the tent to you today.

    Show answer or example answer

Ich habe dir das Zelt heute wieder vorbeigebracht.

“Vorbeibringen” (to drop off) is separable; in the perfect, the prefix sits in the participle “vorbeigebracht” at the end. “Dir” is dative.

  2. Put the words in order: Am / aufgefallen / äußeren / Beutel / eine / ist / kleine / mir / Naht / offene

    Show answer or example answer

Am äußeren Beutel ist mir eine kleine offene Naht aufgefallen.

“Am äußeren Beutel” comes first, so “ist” follows. The thing noticed (“eine kleine offene Naht”) is the subject, the person “mir” is dative.

  3. Write this sentence in German: Afterwards we can discuss together whether anything needs doing.

    Show answer or example answer

Wir können danach gemeinsam besprechen, ob etwas zu tun ist.

“Danach” sets the order; the ob-clause is an indirect question with “ist” at its end, and “zu tun ist” means something needs doing.
