The idea

Group notices use ihr and short sentences. Order: the change, the reason, what stays, what is new, confirmation request. “Bleiben wie vereinbart” is a fixed phrase for unchanged plans. “Gesperrt” (closed off) is a participle used as adjective. “Nur … diesmal” limits the change to this walk. A confirmation request uses the ihr imperative with a dass-clause: “Bitte bestätigt kurz, dass ihr … gesehen habt.”

Other ways to say it

“Kleine Änderung: Wir gehen heute die kurze Runde.” – Casual headline style for a chat.

“Wegen einer Sperrung am Fluss ändern wir heute die Strecke.” – Neutral; gives the reason first with wegen.

Watch out

“Bitte bestätigt kurz, dass ihr habt die Änderung gesehen.” → “Bitte bestätigt kurz, dass ihr die Änderung gesehen habt.”: In a dass-clause the conjugated auxiliary goes last, after the participle: “gesehen habt”.

Try it yourself

  1. Translate into German: For our walk today, I suggest the shorter route.

    Show answer or example answer

Für unseren Spaziergang schlage ich heute die kürzere Runde vor.

The prepositional phrase comes first, so “schlage” is second and “ich” third. “Die kürzere Runde” uses a comparative adjective, and “vor” closes the sentence.

  2. Put the words in order: Beginn / bleiben / Treffpunkt / und / vereinbart / wie

    Show answer or example answer

Treffpunkt und Beginn bleiben wie vereinbart.

Two subjects joined by und take a plural verb: “bleiben”. “Wie vereinbart” is a short form of “wie wir es vereinbart haben”.

  3. Write this sentence in German: I will bring the updated route sketch.

    Show answer or example answer

Ich bringe die aktualisierte Wegskizze mit.

“Die aktualisierte Wegskizze” is accusative; “mitbringen” is separable, so “bringe … mit” frames the object.

Use it today

You lead a Sunday cycling group and a road is blocked. Write a notice with the new route, the reason, what stays the same and a request to confirm.
