Für, durch, ohne, gegen and um require accusative regardless of whether the sentence describes motion.

The idea
Choose the noun phrase's accusative form after the preposition. Bis often appears with no article or before another preposition; in bis zum Bahnhof, zu determines the dative form.
| Form / Muster | Beispiel / Gegensatz |
|---|---|
| für | für den Kurs |
| durch | durch den Wald |
| ohne | ohne einen Mantel |
| gegen | gegen die Wand |
| um | um das Haus |
| bis | bis morgen / bis zum Bahnhof |
Examples
- Das Geschenk ist für meinen Bruder.
- Wir gehen durch den Park.
- Ohne einen Plan wird es schwierig.
- Das Auto fährt gegen den Baum.
- Die Kinder laufen um das Haus.
- Der Kurs dauert bis Freitag.
