Describe a skill gap and learning plan honestly in German

The idea

Gap, transferable skill, need, method, benefit, offer. Bisher noch nicht is honest and implies “but soon”. Jedoch in the second sentence turns to strengths; fronting “Vertraut” stresses familiarity. Vertraut sein mit + dative is the key phrase. Name a concrete learning habit (notes, questions during onboarding) instead of general promises like “Ich lerne schnell”. Einarbeitung is the usual word for onboarding in German workplaces.

Other ways to say it

“Dieses Programm kenne ich noch nicht, arbeite mich aber gern ein.” – Short and confident; sich einarbeiten means to get to grips with.

“Erfahrung habe ich bisher vor allem mit vergleichbaren Tabellenprogrammen gesammelt.” – Neutral; shifts the focus to related experience.

Watch out

“Ich bin vertraut zu ähnlichen Tabellenfunktionen.” → “Ich bin mit ähnlichen Tabellenfunktionen vertraut.”: Vertraut sein always takes mit + dative, just like English “familiar with”. Learners often pick zu by analogy with other adjectives, and the adjective normally moves to the end of the clause.
