The idea
Proposal (sollten … erlaubt sein), benefit (helfen manchmal), limit (Wenn …, jedoch), principle (Erklärung und Anwendung unterscheiden), procedure (Nach einer kurzen Klärung …), result (ohne … zu). The modal passive sollten … erlaubt sein recommends a group rule without naming who allows it. Als marks a role: als Unterstützung. Manchmal limits the benefit honestly. The closing ohne … zu + infinitive shows how both aims fit together.
Other ways to say it
“Kurz übersetzen ist okay, danach reden wir wieder Deutsch.” – Casual group rule; okay is common in spoken German.
“Ich schlage vor, Übersetzungen nur für Arbeitsanweisungen zu nutzen.” – Neutral proposal that limits translation to instructions.

Watch out
“So nutzen wir die Unterstützung, ohne zu verlieren das Übungsziel aus dem Blick.” → “So nutzen wir die Unterstützung, ohne das Übungsziel aus dem Blick zu verlieren.”: In an infinitive clause with ohne … zu, the objects come first and zu + infinitive go to the very end. Following English word order puts the verb too early.

In unserer Lerngruppe sollten Übersetzungen als Unterstützung erlaubt sein.
“Sollten … erlaubt sein” is a modal with the state passive: a recommended rule. “Als Unterstützung” defines the role of translations; als needs no article here.
Put the words in order: eigenes / Formulieren / jedoch / nur / üben / übersetzen / wenig / Wenn / wir / wir
Show answer or example answer
Wenn wir nur übersetzen, üben wir jedoch wenig eigenes Formulieren.
The wenn-clause comes first, so the main clause starts with “üben”. “Eigenes Formulieren” is a noun made from a verb, and “jedoch” marks the drawback.
Write this sentence in German: That way we use the support without losing sight of the practice goal.
Show answer or example answer
So nutzen wir die Unterstützung, ohne das Übungsziel aus dem Blick zu verlieren.
“Aus dem Blick verlieren” means to lose sight of. In the ohne-clause, “das Übungsziel” and “aus dem Blick” come before “zu verlieren”, which ends the sentence.
