The idea

A confirmation email uses Sie, a Betreff such as “Unser Telefonat vom …”, and “Sehr geehrte Frau …” if you know the name. Report what was agreed in the perfect (“Wir haben … besprochen”) and the other person’s promise with “Sie wollten …” (you intended to). “Bis dahin” marks the interim. “Falls ich … falsch verstanden habe” puts the verbs at the end. Close with “Ich freue mich auf Ihre Bestätigung” and “Mit freundlichen Grüßen”.

Other ways to say it

“Wie heute telefonisch besprochen, hole ich die Ware am Donnerstag ab.” – Neutral business formula; “wie besprochen” is very common.

“Hiermit bestätige ich unsere telefonische Vereinbarung.” – Formal; “hiermit” marks an official statement.

Ich freue mich auf Ihre Bestätigung der endgültigen Uhrzeit.

Watch out

“Ich fasse unser heutiges Telefongespräch kurz zu.” → “Ich fasse unser heutiges Telefongespräch kurz zusammen.”: The separable prefix of zusammenfassen is “zusammen”, not just “zu”. The whole prefix goes to the end.

Try it yourself

  1. Translate into German: I will briefly summarize our phone conversation today.

    Show answer or example answer

Ich fasse unser heutiges Telefongespräch kurz zusammen.

“Fasse … zusammen” frames the object; “heutiges” turns heute into an adjective. The present tense describes what the email is doing now.

  2. Put the words in order: die / genaue / mir / mitteilen / noch / schriftlich / Sie / wollten / Zeit

    Show answer or example answer

Sie wollten mir die genaue Zeit noch schriftlich mitteilen.

“Sie wollten” in the past reports the other person’s stated intention. “Jemandem etwas mitteilen” takes dative “mir”; “schriftlich” means in writing.

  3. Write this sentence in German: I look forward to your confirmation of the final time.

    Show answer or example answer

Ich freue mich auf Ihre Bestätigung der endgültigen Uhrzeit.

“Sich freuen auf” looks ahead to the reply. The genitive in “Bestätigung der endgültigen Uhrzeit” names exactly what is awaited.
