The idea
Hobby groups usually use ihr. A good absence message has four parts: when you are missing, a neutral reason (“ein bereits vereinbarter Termin”), what you will do to help, and when you are back. “Dabei sein” means to be present; “sich überschneiden mit” means to clash with. “Falls jemand … kann, wäre das hilfreich” uses Konjunktiv II to ask indirectly. Finish with a positive line about the next rehearsal.
Other ways to say it
– Neutral and direct; “absagen” means to cancel your attendance.
– Casual; gives the return straight away.
Read the text

Watch out
“Ein Termin überschneidet mit der Probe.” → “Ein Termin überschneidet sich mit der Probe.”: Überschneiden is reflexive when two events clash: sich überschneiden mit. Without sich the sentence is incomplete.

Show answer or example answer
“Bei der Probe am kommenden Dienstag” sets the event and comes first; the modal “kann” follows, and “dabei sein” closes the clause.
Put the words in order: Änderungen / besprochenen / Bitte / danach / die / mir / schickt
Show answer or example answer
Bitte schickt mir danach die besprochenen Änderungen.
“Bitte schickt” is the ihr imperative. “Die besprochenen Änderungen” uses a participle as adjective: the changes that were discussed.
Write this sentence in German: I will be there again at the next rehearsal.
Show answer or example answer
“Bei der nächsten Probe” comes first, so “bin” is second. “Wieder dabei” promises a return and ends the message on a positive note.

You will miss next week’s choir or football practice. Write to the group with the date, a short reason and one thing you will do so they are not held up.
