The idea

Write formally with Sie and the order number. “Erfragen” is a formal verb for asking about information. Give the handover date in the perfect (“habe … abgegeben”) and the current documents with “vorliegen” (“liegt mir … vor”). Ask with indirect questions so the verb goes last: “welcher Bearbeitungsschritt erreicht ist”. A falls-clause covers the possibility that the shop is waiting for you. Thank in advance with “Vielen Dank für …”.

Other ways to say it

“Wann kann ich das Gerät voraussichtlich abholen?” – Neutral; “voraussichtlich” asks for an expected date.

“Gibt es schon Neuigkeiten zu meiner Reparatur?” – Friendly and slightly informal for a local shop.

Watch out

“Das Gerät habe ich am vergangenen Mittwoch abgeben.” → “Das Gerät habe ich am vergangenen Mittwoch abgegeben.”: In the participle of a separable verb, ge sits between prefix and stem: ab-ge-geben. Learners often forget it.

Try it yourself

  1. Translate into German: I would like to ask about the current status of my repair order.

    Show answer or example answer

Ich möchte den aktuellen Stand meines Reparaturauftrags erfragen.

“Den aktuellen Stand” is accusative; “meines Reparaturauftrags” is masculine genitive with -s. “Erfragen” closes the sentence after “möchte”.

  2. Put the words in order: Annahmebestätigung / Bisher / die / liegt / mir / nur / vor

    Show answer or example answer

Bisher liegt mir nur die Annahmebestätigung vor.

“Vorliegen” means to be available as a document; the dative “mir” names who has it. “Bisher nur” stresses that nothing more has come.

  3. Write this sentence in German: Thank you for a specific update on the order.

    Show answer or example answer

Vielen Dank für eine konkrete Rückmeldung zum Auftrag.

“Konkret” asks for a specific answer. “Zum Auftrag” (zu + dem) says which matter the reply should address.
