The idea

The message moves from agreement to fact to request. The agreement uses the state passive war … vereinbart (sein + past participle), which describes an arrangement already in place without blaming anyone. The fact uses weder … noch (neither … nor), which already carries the negation. The request is a Sie imperative with bitte (“Bitte prüfen Sie …”), and the closing uses bitten um + accusative. Keep the tone formal (Sehr geehrte Damen und Herren) and give your customer or order number in the Betreff.

Other ways to say it

“Leider ist der für heute zugesagte Techniker nicht erschienen.” – Shorter and slightly more critical; still polite thanks to leider.

“Könnten Sie mir bitte mitteilen, ob der Termin verschoben wurde?” – Softer, question-based version that leaves room for a mix-up.

Watch out

“Ich habe weder einen Besuch noch keine Nachricht erhalten.” → “Ich habe weder einen Besuch noch eine Nachricht erhalten.”: Weder … noch is already negative. Adding kein creates a double negation, which standard German does not use. After noch you keep the positive article ein or eine.

Try it yourself

  1. Translate into German: A visit between ten and twelve was agreed for today.

    Show answer or example answer

Für heute war ein Besuch zwischen zehn und zwölf Uhr vereinbart.

“War … vereinbart” is the state passive in the past: the arrangement existed, without naming who made it. “Für heute” is fronted, so “war” is second and “ein Besuch” follows as subject.

  2. Put the words in order: Änderungsnachricht / Besuch / Bisher / eine / einen / erhalten / habe / ich / noch / weder

    Show answer or example answer

Bisher habe ich weder einen Besuch noch eine Änderungsnachricht erhalten.

“Bisher” fronts the time frame and pulls “habe” into second position. “Weder einen Besuch noch eine Änderungsnachricht” are both accusative objects of “erhalten”, the participle at the end.

  3. Write this sentence in German: I therefore request a response before further scheduling.

    Show answer or example answer

Ich bitte daher um Rückmeldung vor einer weiteren Terminplanung.

“Bitten um” takes the accusative, here without article: “um Rückmeldung”. “Daher” links back to the missed visit, and “vor einer weiteren Terminplanung” sets the condition before you commit again.
