The idea

Present the conflict neutrally, then the facts for each side, then a clear question. Vorliegen (separable) is a common office verb for tasks or documents that are there to be handled. Nicht ausreichen says time is insufficient without sounding like a complaint. Facts such as “blockiert die nächste interne Abstimmung” or “wird erst morgen früh benötigt” help the reader decide quickly. The request uses an ihr imperative (bestätigt) followed by an indirect question with the modal at the end.

Other ways to say it

“Was hat heute Vorrang: die Kundenübersicht oder die Präsentation?” – Direct and short; Vorrang haben means to take priority.

“Ich würde mit der Kundenübersicht anfangen, falls ihr einverstanden seid.” – Proposes a priority yourself and asks for agreement.

Für heute liegen zwei Aufgaben mit gleicher Abgabefrist vor.

Für beide zusammen reicht die verfügbare Bearbeitungszeit nicht aus.

Die Kundenübersicht blockiert die nächste interne Abstimmung.

Die Präsentation wird erst morgen früh benötigt.

Bitte bestätigt, welche Aufgabe ich zuerst abschließen soll.

Den Zeitplan für die zweite Aufgabe passe ich anschließend an.

Watch out

“Bitte bestätigt, welche Aufgabe soll ich zuerst abschließen.” → “Bitte bestätigt, welche Aufgabe ich zuerst abschließen soll.”: An indirect question after bestätigen is a subordinate clause, so the finite verb soll moves to the end. Keeping question word order is a frequent transfer from spoken questions.

Try it yourself

  1. Translate into German: There are two tasks with the same deadline today.

    Show answer or example answer

Für heute liegen zwei Aufgaben mit gleicher Abgabefrist vor.

“Vorliegen” splits into “liegen … vor”. “Mit gleicher Abgabefrist” uses mit + dative; without an article the adjective takes the strong ending -er.

  2. Put the words in order: Abstimmung / blockiert / die / Die / interne / Kundenübersicht / nächste

    Show answer or example answer

Die Kundenübersicht blockiert die nächste interne Abstimmung.

“Blockiert” is a plain present-tense fact that gives the customer overview a clear argument for priority. “Die nächste interne Abstimmung” is the accusative object.

  3. Write this sentence in German: I will then adjust the schedule for the second task.

    Show answer or example answer

Den Zeitplan für die zweite Aufgabe passe ich anschließend an.

“Den Zeitplan” is accusative and fronted for emphasis; “anpassen” splits into “passe … an”. “Anschließend” places the adjustment after the decision.
