The idea

Order: done, missing, consequence, request, interim work, next step. The state passive (sind fertiggestellt) reports a finished result. Für + accusative names what the missing piece is needed for, and ohne + accusative states the consequence. A precise request (“wer die Zahl verbindlich bestätigen kann”) gets faster answers than “Kann jemand helfen?”. Inzwischen shows parallel work, and a sobald-clause links your next step to the missing input.

Other ways to say it

“Kurzer Zwischenstand: Drei von vier Abschnitten sind fertig.” – Brief chat style; Zwischenstand means interim status.

“Mir fehlt nur noch die freigegebene Zahl für Abschnitt vier.” – Informal and direct; fehlen takes the person in the dative.

Watch out

“Ohne dieser Angabe kann ich die Zusammenfassung nicht abschließen.” → “Ohne diese Angabe kann ich die Zusammenfassung nicht abschließen.”: Ohne always takes the accusative, so the feminine demonstrative is diese. Learners often use the dative because mit, the opposite of ohne, takes the dative.

Try it yourself

  1. Translate into German: The first three sections of the report are complete.

    Show answer or example answer

Die ersten drei Abschnitte des Berichts sind fertiggestellt.

“Sind fertiggestellt” is the state passive: the sections are in a finished state. “Des Berichts” is genitive with -s, linking the sections to the report.

  2. Put the words in order: abschließen / Angabe / die / diese / ich / kann / nicht / Ohne / Zusammenfassung

    Show answer or example answer

Ohne diese Angabe kann ich die Zusammenfassung nicht abschließen.

“Ohne diese Angabe” comes first, so the modal “kann” is second and the separable infinitive “abschließen” closes the sentence. “Nicht” stands right before the infinitive it negates.

  3. Write this sentence in German: As soon as the information is available, I will update the completion plan.

    Show answer or example answer

Sobald die Angabe vorliegt, aktualisiere ich den Abschlussplan.

The sobald-clause comes first with “vorliegt” at its end, so the main clause starts with the verb “aktualisiere”. Vorliegen means to be available, a common office verb.
