The idea

Purpose, problem, request, limit, evidence, next step. Zugriff takes auf + accusative. Distinguish Leseberechtigung (read access) from Bearbeitungsrechte (edit rights); asking for the minimum is common practice and easier to approve. Fronting the object (“Bearbeitungsrechte benötige ich … nicht”) stresses the limit. Evidence in the Perfekt (“habe ich beigefügt”) shows you have done your part. The sobald-clause ties the rest of your work to the access.

Other ways to say it

“Könntest du mich für den Vorlagenordner freischalten?” – Casual du request; freischalten means to grant access.

“Leider habe ich keine Berechtigung, den Ordner zu öffnen.” – Neutral description of the problem before the request.

Bitte prüft, welche Leseberechtigung für diesen Ordner vorgesehen ist.

Bearbeitungsrechte benötige ich für diese Aufgabe nicht.

Die Fehlermeldung und den betroffenen Ordnernamen habe ich beigefügt.

Sobald der Zugriff geklärt ist, kann ich die Vorbereitung fortsetzen.

Watch out

“Ich benötige Zugriff zu den freigegebenen Vorlagen.” → “Ich benötige Zugriff auf die freigegebenen Vorlagen.”: Zugriff, like zugreifen, goes with auf + accusative. English “access to” suggests zu, but German uses auf for both the noun and the verb.

Try it yourself

  1. Translate into German: For the preparation, I need access to the approved templates.

    Show answer or example answer

Für die Vorbereitung benötige ich Zugriff auf die freigegebenen Vorlagen.

“Für die Vorbereitung” states the purpose first, so “benötige” follows. “Zugriff” has no article here, as is usual for access in office language.

  2. Put the words in order: Bitte / diesen / für / ist / Leseberechtigung / Ordner / prüft / vorgesehen / welche

    Show answer or example answer

Bitte prüft, welche Leseberechtigung für diesen Ordner vorgesehen ist.

“Prüft” asks colleagues to check; the indirect question with “welche Leseberechtigung” ends in “vorgesehen ist”, the state passive meaning “is intended”.

  3. Write this sentence in German: Once access is clarified, I can continue the preparation.

    Show answer or example answer

Sobald der Zugriff geklärt ist, kann ich die Vorbereitung fortsetzen.

In the sobald-clause the state passive “geklärt ist” comes last. The main clause then starts with “kann”, and “fortsetzen” means to continue something already started.
