The idea

Chain cause → change → consequence → request → proposal → update. Damit at the start of a main clause means “as a result” and is followed by the verb; do not confuse it with the conjunction damit (so that), which sends the verb to the end. Erst am Nachmittag stresses lateness. Abhängigkeit (dependency) is the key term when one team waits for another. “Ich schlage vor, … neu abzustimmen” offers cooperation instead of simply passing on the problem.

Other ways to say it

“Wegen der späteren Lieferung verschiebt sich unser Prüfbeginn auf den Nachmittag.” – Neutral one-sentence summary; sich verschieben means to be postponed.

“Das hat leider Auswirkungen auf euren Zeitplan.” – Short, informal bridge to the request for the other team.

Die neue Lieferzeit verändert den geplanten Beginn unserer Prüfung.

Die Unterlagen kommen nun erst am Nachmittag an.

Damit kann die Prüfung nicht wie bisher vormittags starten.

Bitte berücksichtigt diese Abhängigkeit in eurem eigenen Zeitplan.

Ich schlage vor, die Übergabe gemeinsam neu abzustimmen.

Sobald der neue Beginn bestätigt ist, aktualisiere ich die Übersicht.

Watch out

“Die Unterlagen kommen nun nur am Nachmittag an.” → “Die Unterlagen kommen nun erst am Nachmittag an.”: With times, erst means “not before” (later than expected), while nur means “only” and limits an amount. English “only in the afternoon” covers both, so learners choose nur.

Try it yourself

  1. Translate into German: The new delivery time changes the planned start of our check.

    Show answer or example answer

Die neue Lieferzeit verändert den geplanten Beginn unserer Prüfung.

“Verändert” is a plain present-tense verb with “die neue Lieferzeit” as subject. “Den geplanten Beginn” is the accusative object, and “unserer Prüfung” a genitive naming whose start.

  2. Put the words in order: bisher / Damit / die / kann / nicht / Prüfung / starten / vormittags / wie

    Show answer or example answer

Damit kann die Prüfung nicht wie bisher vormittags starten.

“Damit” here is an adverb meaning “as a result”, so the modal “kann” comes second. “Nicht wie bisher vormittags” contrasts the old plan with the new reality.

  3. Write this sentence in German: Once the new start is confirmed, I will update the overview.

    Show answer or example answer

Sobald der neue Beginn bestätigt ist, aktualisiere ich die Übersicht.

The subordinate clause ends with the state passive “bestätigt ist”, describing a confirmed state. The main clause opens with “aktualisiere”, so the update directly follows the condition.
