Read opening-hours signs, distinguish closing time from last entry, and check a lunch break before visiting. Wir öffnen um neun Uhr. — We open at nine.

The idea

Um neun means at nine; bis neun means until nine. Von neun bis zwölf gives the whole interval.

Use it in context

In the reference table, 12–13 is a break. Last entry is earlier than closing: visitors cannot infer admission time from closing time alone. Mo–Fr names Monday through Friday, not the weekend.

Examples

  • Wir öffnen um neun Uhr.We open at nine.
  • Das Büro bleibt bis vier Uhr geöffnet. The office stays open until four.

Watch out

Letzter Einlass is the last admission time, not the closing time. A midday gap means the place is closed during that interval.
