A Japanese input method editor (IME) turns keystrokes into kana and offers conversion candidates.

The idea

Enable a Japanese IME and select hiragana with romaji input. Type kasa for かさ, kitte for きって and pann for ぱん; doubled consonants can produce small っ and nn produces ん. To write パン, choose the katakana candidate. Confirm the composition before submitting an answer; menus and shortcuts depend on the device.

Examples

  • 傘かさを買かいます。I buy an umbrella.
  • 魚さかなを食たべます。I eat fish.
  • ここに本ほんがあります。There is a book here.
  • パンを買かいます。I buy bread.
  • バスで駅えきへ行いきます。I go to the station by bus.
  • テレビを見みます。I watch television.

Read-aloud uses a synthetic Japanese voice available on your device. Voice quality and availability vary; it does not assess your pronunciation.

Watch out

A single n may wait for the next key; nn is a reliable way to enter ん. Pressing Enter during composition may confirm a candidate rather than submit the answer.
