Use the whole sentence to choose a word that fits the situation.

The idea

Look for clues before and after the blank. Strong rain explains why a match is cancelled (中止); a forecast is something to check (確認); a changed appointment calls for contacting someone (連絡). Learn these words with the nouns and verbs they normally accompany.

Examples

  • 電車でんしゃが遅おくれたので、会議かいぎに間まに合あいませんでした。The train was delayed, so I did not make it to the meeting on time.
  • 出でかける前まえに、天気てんき予報よほうを確認かくにんしました。I checked the weather forecast before going out.
  • 雨あめが強つよくなったので、試合しあいは中止ちゅうしになりました。The rain got heavier, so the match was cancelled.
  • この道みちは工事中こうじちゅうなので、別べつの道みちを通とおってください。This road is under construction, so please take another road.
  • 資料しりょうが足たりないので、もう一部いちぶずつ印刷いんさつします。There are not enough copies, so I will print one more of each document.
  • 約束やくそくの時間じかんが変かわったら、すぐに連絡れんらくしてください。If the appointment time changes, please let me know immediately.

Watch out

A familiar translation alone may not fit the sentence: 確認 means checking, not cancelling. The JLPT publishes no official vocabulary list, so N3 labels are estimates.
