A photograph makes a granddaughter question a familiar family story. Read this original fiction once for the sequence of events, then again to separate visible evidence, remembered feelings and a possible next step.
The idea
Test each conclusion against what its source can show. The dated photograph establishes a meeting after the workshop closed; it cannot establish reconciliation. When Nermin speaks, she adds the silence missing from the image. Read her final request as a change of intention, not a completed outcome.

Oysa fotoğrafın arkasına “Nermin'in doğum günü, 1998” yazılmıştı.
Ece fotoğrafı dikkatle çevirdi. Önce tarihin yanlış yazıldığını düşündü. Sonra anneannesinin yüzüne baktı. Nermin fotoğrafı görünce gülümsedi, fakat gülümsemesi hemen kayboldu. “Tarih doğru,” dedi. “Sevim o gün geldi. Pastayı komşumuz getirmişti. Fotoğrafı da o çekti.”
“Demek barışmıştınız,” dedi Ece. Nermin başını salladı. “Hayır. Aynı masada durduk diye aramızdaki sorunlar çözülmedi. Atölyeyi kapatma kararını bana sormadan verdiğini düşünüyordum. Onun ne yaşadığını ise hiç sormamıştım.”
Ece fotoğrafa yeniden baktığında Sevim'in elinde küçük bir anahtar fark etti.

Watch out
In Aynı masada durduk diye, standing at the same table is a proposed reason that the speaker rejects. Do not turn physical closeness into emotional closeness. Nor does önce ben konuşayım prove that the call has already happened.

In what year was the photograph taken? Write only the year.
Show answer or example answer
1998
1998: the handwritten date places the birthday four years after the workshop closed in 1994. The grandmother confirms the date, so the granddaughter’s first suspicion of an error does not hold.

anahtar / bir anahtar
anahtar / bir anahtar: the small object in the sister’s hand is identified when the grandmother takes the same key out of her sewing box. The changed lock explains why she kept it as a memory rather than for practical use.
Which feeling kept Nermin from speaking that day? Choose: kırgınlık (hurt) / merak (curiosity).
Show answer or example answer
kırgınlık
kırgınlık: the grandmother explicitly says her hurt prevented her from speaking. The sister waited at the door and left after receiving no response; forgetfulness is not given as the cause.
Which inference about Nermin does the last scene support? Choose: konuşmaya hazır (ready to talk) / tamamen barışmış (fully reconciled).
Show answer or example answer
konuşmaya hazır
konuşmaya hazır: she asks for the number and wants to speak first. These actions support a willingness to talk, while the final sentence leaves the call, the sister’s response and any reconciliation unresolved.
