Explore 並 in everyday scenes: people line up, books are arranged and trees form a row.

The idea

並 has eight strokes; follow the linked diagram. 並ぶ(ならぶ) means to line up or be arranged, while 並べる(ならべる) means to arrange something. 並木(なみき) is a row of trees.

Watch out

Do not confuse the verb pair: with 並ぶ, the things in a row are marked by が; with 並べる, the things someone arranges take を. 並木 is read なみき, not ならき.
