A language exchange gives both partners a turn to learn. For this B2 activity, prepare to compare options and defend a view, rather than deliver a memorised speech. The twenty-minute plan below is a suggested exercise, not a required session length.

The idea

Agree on one topic, equal time for each language and when to discuss errors. Bring one open question, two reasons for your opinion and a few useful phrases, not a full script. For example, Sence evden çalışmanın en önemli avantajı nedir? invites a view you can ask about. Keep the agreed language until the switch; after each turn, discuss two useful corrections and try them in new sentences.

Examples

  • Bugün iki seçeneği karşılaştıralım.Let’s compare two options today.
  • Her dile on dakika ayıralım.Let’s set aside ten minutes for each language.
  • Düzeltmeleri konuşmanın sonunda ele alalım.Let’s go over the corrections at the end of the conversation.
  • Konuşurken sözümü kesmek yerine hatalarımı not alabilir misin?Could you note down my mistakes instead of interrupting me while I speak?
  • Sence evden çalışmanın en önemli avantajı nedir? In your opinion, what is the most important advantage of working from home?
  • Düzelttiğin cümleyi başka bir örnekle yeniden kurmak istiyorum.I want to reformulate the sentence you corrected using a different example.

Read-aloud uses a synthetic Turkish voice available on your device. Voice quality and availability vary; it does not assess your pronunciation.

Watch out

Asking for every mistake to be corrected immediately can interrupt the very speech you want to practise. For a fluency turn, request notes and discuss them afterwards. If the meaning breaks down, clarify it straight away; postponing correction does not mean pretending to understand.

Try it yourself

  1. You will defend an opinion without reading aloud. Choose what to prepare: iki gerekçe (two reasons) or ezberlenecek bir metin (a text to memorise).

    Show answer or example answer

    iki gerekçe

iki gerekçe: two reasons give your opinion support while leaving you free to respond to an unexpected question; a memorised script fixes the path in advance.

  2. You divide twenty minutes equally between two languages. Write the time per language in Turkish words.

    Show answer or example answer

    on dakika

on dakika: half of twenty minutes is ten. The second language needs its own turn, even if the first conversation is going well.

  3. You are practising uninterrupted speech and the meaning is clear. When do you discuss noted errors: her cümlede (at every sentence) or konuşmanın sonunda (at the end of the conversation)?

    Show answer or example answer

    konuşmanın sonunda

konuşmanın sonunda: the listener already understands, so the noted errors can wait until the speaker finishes developing the idea.

  4. What shows that you can use the corrected structure in another situation: yeni bir cümle (a new sentence) or aynı cümlenin kopyası (a copy of the same sentence)?

    Show answer or example answer

    yeni bir cümle

yeni bir cümle: changing the situation makes you choose the form again. Copying the original only shows that you can reproduce what is on the page.

Use it today

Prepare a card about working from home versus working in an office: one question, two reasons and three useful expressions. Agree on ten minutes per language, including correction time. Afterwards, use one corrected structure in a new sentence and keep it for your next meeting.
