Start with a small sample of familiar Japanese to see what you can still recall.

The idea

Try six familiar sentences without notes: read, say the meaning and recall a form. Check each answer, mark only uncertain items, and review one pattern in context. Revisit it tomorrow before adding new material.

Examples

  • 明日あしたは日本語にほんごを勉強べんきょうします。Tomorrow I will study Japanese.
  • 本ほんを読よんでから、復習ふくしゅうします。After reading a book, I will review.
  • 昨日きのう、少すこし勉強べんきょうしました。Yesterday I studied a little.
  • 毎日まいにち、単語たんごを三みっつ覚おぼえます。Every day I learn three words.
  • 分わからない言葉ことばをノートに書かきます。I write words I do not understand in a notebook.
  • 来週らいしゅう、もう一度いちど、練習れんしゅうします。Next week I will practise again.

Read-aloud uses a synthetic Japanese voice available on your device. Voice quality and availability vary; it does not assess your pronunciation.

Watch out

Recognition is not the same as recall. Do not restart the entire course or judge your level from one forgotten word; use several examples to choose one gap.

Try it yourself

  1. 明日あした_日本語にほんごを勉強べんきょうします。(は/を)

    Show answer or example answer

    は

は marks the topic: as for tomorrow, I will study Japanese. Recall the particle before checking the sentence.

  2. 本ほんを読よん_から、復習ふくしゅうします。(て/で)

    Show answer or example answer

    て

て is correct: 読んでから means “after reading”; the review comes after the reading.

  3. 昨日きのう、少すこし勉強べんきょうし_。(ました/ます)

    Show answer or example answer

    ました

ました makes the polite past: 昨日 establishes yesterday, so 勉強しました reports a completed study session.

Use it today

Spend ten minutes on the examples, note one uncertain pattern, then make and check a sentence using it. Schedule another recall attempt tomorrow.
