杯 counts servings in cups or glasses, including drinks and bowls of food.
The idea
Put a number before 杯: 一杯 is いっぱい, 二杯 is にはい and 三杯 is さんばい. Six is ろっぱい, eight はっぱい and ten じゅっぱい or じっぱい. Ask 何杯（なんばい）. The quantity can follow the object, as in 水を二杯ください.

- 父は水を八杯飲みました。My father drank eight glasses of water.
- コーヒーを何杯飲みましたか。How many cups of coffee did you drink?

Watch out
杯 counts servings, not a fixed volume: a cup and a glass can hold different amounts. Do not read every 杯 as はい; the sound changes with some numbers.
