Explore 計 through time, measurement and plans. The examples connect whole words and their readings to everyday contexts.

The idea

計 has 9 strokes; follow their order in the linked KanjiVG diagram. Read 時計(とけい) and 計画(けいかく) as complete words: a character’s reading depends on the word.

Watch out

計る often measures time or calculates; 測る is used for dimensions such as length. 時計 is read とけい, not じけい. Compare the shape of 計 with 討.
