Use kanıtlamak when evidence establishes a claim. You will name what is proved, build common verb forms and distinguish a failed attempt from a simple negative statement.
The idea
Kanıtlamak takes a direct object: bu iddiayı kanıtlamak means to prove this claim. A whole proposition can fill that slot: kapının açık olduğunu kanıtlamak, to prove that the door is open. The stem kanıtla- gives kanıtlıyorum in the present continuous, kanıtladım in the past and kanıtlayacağım in the future. Evidence itself can be the subject, as in Bu hesap iddiamızı kanıtlıyor.
| Use / person | Form |
|---|---|

| Future: I | kanıtlayacağım |

| Negative past: I | kanıtlamadım |
| Past inability: I | kanıtlayamadım |
| Present question: you (singular) | kanıtlıyor musun? |

Watch out
Kanıtlamadı says that someone did not prove it; kanıtlayamadı says they could not. Failure to prove a claim does not prove that it is false. Also distinguish savunmak (defend an idea) from kanıtlamak (establish it with evidence).
Try it yourself
Complete with the present continuous: this calculation proves our claim.

kanıtlıyor
kanıtlıyor: the subject is the singular calculation, so there is no first-person ending. The final a of kanıtla- narrows to ı before the present ending.
Use the future, first person singular: I will prove this claim tomorrow.
Show answer or example answer
kanıtlayacağım
kanıtlayacağım: the speaker promises a future action. A linking y follows the vowel-final stem, and the future ending’s k becomes ğ before -ım.
Add the appropriate case to iddia (claim): one example is not enough to prove this claim.

iddiayı
iddiayı: bu identifies a particular claim, which is the object being proved. After the final a, a linking y joins the accusative -ı.
The team tried but could not prove the claim. Express inability in the past.

kanıtlayamadı
kanıtlayamadı: the team tried but failed, so the sentence needs inability, not merely negation. Kanıtlamadı alone leaves the reason for not proving it unstated.
