Use 続く to describe a situation that lasts or a path that extends.

The idea

続く is an intransitive godan verb: the continuing event or thing is marked by が or presented as the topic with は. 続いています describes an ongoing state; まで can mark its endpoint.

Watch out

Do not use 続く with を for the thing someone continues. Use transitive 続ける instead: 勉強を続けます. The て form of 続く is 続いて.
