Compare pairs about carrying bags, a meeting and buying tickets. You will choose how to present a future action, not just locate it on a timeline.
The idea
For a future action, the aorist often expresses willingness or an expectation: taşırım can offer to carry something; biter can predict an end. The future form presents the action explicitly as something that will happen: taşıyacağım can announce a plan, and bitecek can state a prediction. Both alırım and alacağım can promise to buy something. Context and tone determine the strength of the commitment. Use the linked suffix lessons for the forms.
| Aorist: willingness or expectation | Future: action presented as future |
|---|---|
| Akşam çantaları ben taşırım. | Akşam çantaları ben taşıyacağım. |
| Bence toplantı erken biter. | Bence toplantı erken bitecek. |
Examples
- Akşam çantaları ben taşırım.I'll carry the bags this evening.
- Akşam çantaları ben taşıyacağım.I'm going to carry the bags this evening.
- Bence toplantı erken biter.I think the meeting will end early.
- Bence toplantı erken bitecek.I think the meeting is going to end early.
- Merak etme, biletleri ben alırım.Don't worry, I'll buy the tickets.
- Söz veriyorum, biletleri ben alacağım.I promise, I'll buy the tickets.

Watch out
Do not let yarın (tomorrow) force a future ending: an aorist can also refer to tomorrow. Nor does an aorist promise mean “perhaps”, or a future ending guarantee the result. In the meeting pair, bence (I think) frames both versions as the speaker’s judgement.
Try it yourself
Volunteer to carry this box. Complete with the aorist of taşımak: “Okay, I’ll carry this box.”
Show answer or example answer
taşırım
taşırım: you volunteer to carry this box, and the instruction asks for the aorist. The sentence assigns the job to you; it does not describe a daily habit.
State your plan to send the message tomorrow. Complete with the future of göndermek.
Show answer or example answer
göndereceğim
göndereceğim: the message is part of your stated plan for tomorrow, and the instruction requests the future. Gönderirim could instead offer or promise to send it, but is not the requested form here.
Predict that the meeting will end early. Complete with the aorist or future of bitmek; either is possible.
Show answer or example answer
biter / bitecek
biter / bitecek: both predict an early end to this meeting. The aorist gives an expectation; the future states the anticipated event more directly. Bence leaves room for a different outcome in either case.
Promise to buy the tickets. Complete with the aorist or future of almak; either is possible.
Show answer or example answer
alırım / alacağım
alırım / alacağım: söz veriyorum makes the promise explicit with either ending. The first readily reassures someone that you will take care of the tickets; the second states the purchase as your future action.
