Use bahçe to talk about growing plants, entering a garden and describing a neighbour’s outdoor space. At B1, connect ownership with location instead of choosing just one ending.
The idea
The stem bahçe keeps its final e and its internal ç. Its forms include bahçeler, bahçeye and bahçede: the last vowel selects front-vowel endings. Compare bahçeyi (the garden as a specific object) with bahçesi (his/her garden). The first uses y, the second s; bahçenin means “of the garden”, while bahçen means “your garden”.
| Form | Meaning / use |

| bahçem | my garden |
| bahçen | your garden (singular) |
| bahçesi | his/her garden |
| bahçemiz | our garden |
| bahçeniz | your garden (plural/polite) |
| onların bahçeleri | their garden(s) |

Watch out
The ç is not the final sound: write bahçede, not bahçete. For “in his/her garden”, keep the possessive ending and add linking n before the location ending: onun bahçesinde. Plain bahçede leaves out whose garden it is.
Try it yourself
Write the plural of “garden”, without a numeral.
Show answer or example answer
bahçeler
bahçeler: several gardens are meant, with no numeral before the noun. The final e selects -ler; the earlier a does not determine this ending.
Complete with the whole word: Let’s water that garden.
Show answer or example answer
bahçeyi
bahçeyi: şu singles out the garden to water, so the object takes -i. The stem already ends in a vowel, and y separates it from that ending.
Use both possession and location: There are two apple trees in our garden.
Show answer or example answer
bahçemizde
bahçemizde: the trees are in our garden. Add -miz to the vowel-ending stem, then -de for the location; bahçemiz alone names our garden without saying “in”.
Complete: There is a small table in his or her garden.

bahçesinde
bahçesinde: onun identifies a third-person owner. Build bahçe + -si + n + -de; replacing this with bahçenizde would change the meaning to “in your garden”.
