Sharing tea often goes with conversation and hospitality in Türkiye. This lesson helps you name the objects on the table and describe how you like your tea, without assuming that every household has the same habits.
The idea
The traditional tea glass is an ince belli bardak, a glass with a narrow middle. A demlik is the pot in which tea brews; a çay ocağı is a small establishment that prepares and serves tea. For the drink, açık means light or weak and koyu means dark or strong. Sugar is a separate choice: şekerli or şekersiz. With an adjective before the noun, say açık çay or koyu çay.
| Turkish | Meaning |

Watch out
Do not interpret açık çay as tea without sugar: it describes strength. Şekersiz çay can still be strong. Also, ince belli describes the shape of the glass, not the thickness of its walls.
