Rebuild a paragraph from shuffled sentences. The first three examples form one paragraph; the next three form another. These are original learning exercises, not official exam questions. The source link leads to official sample materials.

The idea

Start with a sentence that introduces the situation without needing an unexplained reference. Then connect each sentence to information already given: bir defter introduces the notebook, bu deftere points back to it, and bu kelimeleri refers to the words just written. Use time and cause together: the bridge closes, the bus changes route, and the longer route takes more time. Finally read the whole paragraph to check every link.

Examples

  • Selin dün bir defter aldı.Selin bought a notebook yesterday.
  • Bu deftere yeni kelimeler yazdı.She wrote new words in this notebook.
  • Akşam bu kelimeleri tekrar etti.In the evening she revised these words.
  • Köydeki eski köprü geçen ay kapandı.The old bridge in the village closed last month.
  • Bu yüzden otobüs artık başka bir yoldan gidiyor. That is why the bus now takes a different road.
  • Yeni yol daha uzun, bu nedenle yolculuk daha çok zaman alıyor. The new road is longer, so the journey takes more time.

Watch out

Do not put two sentences together just because they repeat a noun. A phrase such as bu yüzden needs a cause in these paragraphs; bu may point to an entire event, not just the nearest noun. A grammatically correct sentence can still be in the wrong place.

Try it yourself
