You will turn a noun into your house, your car or your books for a group or for someone you address as siz.
The idea
The ending -(ı)nız means your when you speak to several people or politely to one person (siz): eviniz, kızınız, okulunuz, gözünüz. After a consonant it has four shapes, -ınız, -iniz, -unuz and -ünüz, chosen by the last vowel of the word. After a vowel the first vowel of the ending drops: arabanız, anneniz. A plural comes before it: kitaplarınız.
| Last vowel | After a consonant | Example | After a vowel | Example |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| a, ı | -ınız | kızınız | -nız | arabanız |
| o, u | -unuz | okulunuz | -nuz | kutunuz |
| e, i | -iniz | eviniz | -niz | anneniz |
| ö, ü | -ünüz | gözünüz | -nüz | ütünüz |

Watch out
After a word that ends in a vowel, do not keep the vowel of the ending: arabanız, not arabaınız. And do not use the friend form -ın/-in with someone you call siz: Adınız ne? to a stranger, Adın ne? only to a friend.
Try it yourself
Add the ending for “your” (plural or polite) to ev (house): your house.
Show answer or example answer
eviniz
eviniz: the last vowel e is front and unrounded, and v is a consonant, so the full ending -iniz follows.
Add the ending for “your” (plural or polite) to araba (car): your car.
Show answer or example answer
arabanız
arabanız: the word ends in the vowel a, so the ending loses its ı and is just -nız; the back vowel a gives ı.
Add the ending for “your” (plural or polite) to okul (school): your school.
Show answer or example answer
okulunuz
okulunuz: the last vowel u is back and rounded, so both vowels of the ending become u: -unuz.
Add the ending for “your” (plural or polite) to kitap (book): your book.
Show answer or example answer
kitabınız
kitabınız: the final p softens to b before a vowel, and the back vowel a gives -ınız.
