Use いただく to describe receiving with humility in polite situations.

The idea

いただく is the humble counterpart of もらう and a godan verb. The recipient is the subject, the giver takes に or から, and the thing takes を. The て form of another verb plus いただく expresses a favor received.

Watch out

Do not use いただく to elevate the recipient: it humbles the receiving action. With the giver as subject, use くださる instead. The て form is いただいて.
