Use おっしゃる when referring respectfully to what another person says.

The idea

おっしゃる is the honorific equivalent of 言う: the person whose words are reported is the subject. Quote their words with と. Its polite form is irregular: おっしゃいます; its て form is おっしゃって.

Watch out

Do not use おっしゃる for your own words: 申す is a humble alternative. Also avoid adding another honorific such as おっしゃられる.

    おっしゃいます

おっしゃいます is the irregular polite non-past form; it does not use おっしゃります.

    おっしゃって

おっしゃって is the て form, with a small っ before て.
