Explore two common uses of 仕切る in polite Japanese.

The idea

仕切る is a transitive godan verb. With 会議 or イベント as its object, it means to take charge and keep things moving; with 部屋 or 空間, it means to partition a space. The object takes を, and a divider can take で.

Watch out

Although it ends in る, 仕切る is godan: its て form is 仕切って, not 仕切て. Running a meeting and physically dividing a room are distinct senses.
