Compose a relaxed invitation for someone you know well.

The idea

Use the plain negative question 見ない? to suggest watching something together; in this context it is an invitation, not a statement of refusal. Add a time with 2時はどう? and a place with で. Ask for a reply and give the person an easy way to say no.

Want to watch a film together?
How about 2 p.m.?
Let’s meet in front of the station.
If it doesn’t work for you, another time is fine.

Watch out

This is casual language for a close friend. With someone you need to address politely, use a form such as 見ませんか rather than copying the plain endings. Do not assume the proposed time is agreed.

Try it yourself

  1. Choose and fill the blank: いっしょに映画えいがを_?(見みない/見みなく)

    は

は sets two o’clock as the time being proposed.

    Show answer or example answer

    で

Use it today

Invite a fictional friend to an activity. Include a day, time and meeting place, and make it comfortable for them to decline.
