Both yine and tekrar can describe something happening again. At B2, the useful question is whether the word modifies a complete verb or belongs to a larger expression.
The idea
With an ordinary verb, both can mean “again”: Yazıcı yine bozuldu and Yazıcı tekrar bozuldu both report another breakdown. Yine often draws attention to a familiar recurrence; tekrar foregrounds repetition. These are tendencies, not a division between accidental and deliberate events. The expression yine de means “nevertheless”; tekrar etmek means “to repeat”.
| Expression | Example |
|---|---|
| yine / tekrar | Yazıcı yine bozuldu. / Yazıcı tekrar bozuldu. |
| yine de | Yağmur yağıyor, yine de maç devam ediyor. |
| tekrar etmek | Lütfen adresi tekrar edin. |
| tekrar tekrar | Çocuk aynı soruyu tekrar tekrar soruyor. |

Do not replace the words mechanically inside expressions: tekrar de does not mean “nevertheless”, and yine etmek is not the verb “to repeat”. Annoyance comes from the situation and tone; yine is not inherently negative. Write yine de as two words.
