Finding the main idea in a Turkish paragraph

The idea

The topic, konu, names what the paragraph is about; the main idea, ana düşünce, says what the writer conveys about it. In the examples, the workshop is the setting, while learning from one another is the central message. Read the whole paragraph, form a one-sentence summary, then compare the choices. A main idea can be stated directly or inferred from several sentences.

Watch out

A choice may repeat a true detail without covering the whole message. Do not select it just because you recognise the words. Nor should your answer turn one example into a claim about everyone or everything. The first or last sentence is a clue, not an automatic answer.

   B: the old closing time excluded people who finished work late; the new hours let them borrow books. C gives the closing time but misses its benefit. A adds a claim about prices that the text never makes.

   A: the students noticed different details, and listening to one another improved their understanding. B demands identical interpretations, against the paragraph’s message. C names a subject without explaining what the discussion achieved.

   C: repairing both a shirt and a bag lets the writer keep using them. B repeats only the first incident. A turns two small repairs into a requirement applying to all old things, which the paragraph does not support.
