Use İstanbulkart almak istiyorum to ask to buy a card. Then practise finding a bus stop or ferry pier and asking where to change to the metro. The situations below are invented for language practice.
The idea
Learn the action with its noun: kart almak means buying a card, kartı doldurmak means topping it up, and aktarma yapmak means changing services. For places, use otobüs durağı for a bus stop, metro istasyonu for a metro station and vapur iskelesi for a ferry pier. Ask Metroya nerede aktarma yapabilirim? to find the transfer point.

Watch out
In a journey, aktarma is a change of vehicle or line, not money added to your card: that is dolum. A transfer sign does not by itself tell you the price. Also distinguish bakiye, the money remaining, from the card itself.
