反面 highlights another side of the same matter; 一方 can also compare separate subjects or describe simultaneous roles.
The idea
Attach 反面 or 一方 to a plain verb or い-adjective, な反面/な一方 to a な-adjective, and である反面/である一方 to a noun. 一方 can also begin a new sentence. Both can contrast aspects of one subject; 一方 additionally juxtaposes different subjects or roles.

Watch out
They overlap, so context does not always demand just one. Do not confuse contrastive 一方 with the separate pattern verb dictionary form+一方だ, meaning a continuing trend.
