件 counts distinct matters, cases or occurrences, such as inquiries and incidents.
The idea
Put the number before 件: 一件 is いっけん, 二件 is にけん, and 三件 is さんけん. 六件 is ろっけん, 八件 is はっけん, and 十件 is じゅっけん or じっけん. Ask 何件（なんけん）. The quantity can follow the noun, as in 問い合わせが一件ありました.

- 今日は問い合わせが一件ありました。Today there was one inquiry.
- 申し込みを二件受け付けました。We received two applications.
- 事故が三件報告されました。Three accidents were reported.
- この地域では事件が八件起きました。Eight incidents occurred in this area.
- 相談は全部で十件です。There are ten consultations in total.
- 昨日は苦情が何件届きましたか。How many complaints came in yesterday?
