A short reason can help the listener understand why you are asking for help or permission.
The idea
Place the reason before ので, then make the request: 道がわからないので、教えていただけますか. A な-adjective takes な before ので, as in 静かなので.
| Reason | Request |
|---|---|
| 道がわからないので | 教えていただけますか |
| 静かなので | 話してもいいですか |
Examples
- 道がわからないので、教えていただけますか。I do not know the way, so could you tell me?
- 漢字が読めないので、読んでいただけますか。I cannot read the kanji, so could you read it for me?
- かばんが重いので、手伝っていただけますか。My bag is heavy, so could you help me?
- すみません、少し寒いので、窓を閉めてもいいですか。Excuse me, it is a little cold, so may I close the window?
- この部屋は静かなので、ここで話してもいいですか。This room is quiet, so may we talk here?
- この字が見えないので、もう少し大きく書いてください。I cannot see these characters, so please write them a little larger.

Watch out
A reason does not oblige the other person to agree. Keep it relevant, use a suitable request form and allow room for refusal; ので does not make every demand polite by itself.
