A safer route for the festival

The idea

ものの marks a contrast: the riverside route is short, yet slippery in rain. ので gives Tanaka’s reason for prioritizing safety; ため links the detour to an earlier departure.

• 祭まつりの実行委員会じっこういいんかいは、行列ぎょうれつの道順みちじゅんを決きめるために集あつまりました。The festival committee met to decide the procession’s route.
• 川沿かわぞいの道みちは短みじかいものの、雨あめが降ふると滑すべりやすくなります。Although the riverside road is short, it becomes slippery when it rains.
• 学校がっこうの前まえを通とおる道みちは少すこし長ながいですが、広ひろくて安全あんぜんです。The road past the school is a little longer, but wide and safe.
• 田中たなかさんは、子こどもも参加さんかするので、安全あんぜんを優先ゆうせんしたほうがいいと言いいました。Tanaka said they should prioritize safety because children would take part too.
• 委員いいんたちは地図ちずを見みながら話はなし合あい、学校がっこうの前まえの道みちを選えらびました。The members discussed the map and chose the road past the school.
• 遠回とおまわりになるため、出発しゅっぱつを十分じゅっぷん早はやめることにしました。Because it was a detour, they decided to leave ten minutes earlier.
