Use かかる to talk about how long something takes or how much it costs.

The idea

かかる is an intransitive godan verb. A duration or amount can stand directly before it; time or money can also be marked with が. Mark the activity or purpose with に, or use a dictionary-form verb plus のに.

Watch out

Do not use を to mark the time or money consumed by かかる. The て form is かかって, with a small っ; かかる has other meanings, so context matters.
