Use 起こす to describe waking another person or bringing about an event.

The idea

起こす is a transitive godan verb: mark the person woken or the event caused with を. Its polite form is 起こします, past 起こしました and て form 起こして. Context determines whether it means wake or cause.

Watch out

Do not confuse 起こす with intransitive 起きる: 子どもを起こす means wake the child, while 子どもが起きる means the child wakes up. 事故を起こす describes causing an accident; 事故が起きる describes one happening.
