対する connects a response or attitude to its target and can also contrast two situations.

The idea

Place に対して after a noun to mark the person, issue or difficulty toward which an action or attitude is directed. Use に対する before a noun, as in 子どもに対する態度. The verb conjugates like する: 対します and 対して. A clause plus のに対して contrasts it with another situation.

Watch out

Do not put に対して directly before the noun it modifies: use に対する態度. A contrast with a na-adjective takes な before の, as in 静かなのに対して.
