Practise connecting clues rather than locating a sentence that repeats an answer. These original B2 tasks are independent practice, not official exam questions. The final task asks what cannot be inferred.

The idea

A supported inference connects what the text says without adding an unmentioned cause or turning a possibility into certainty. In the examples, artık signals a changed situation and yeniden a repeated action; neither tells you why. Link these clues to the whole passage. To infer purpose, ask what the writer does with the information: question a limitation, recommend a change or merely describe.

Examples

  • Toplantılar artık çevrim içi yapılıyor.Meetings are now held online.
  • Bu öneriyi yeniden değerlendireceğiz.We will reconsider this proposal.
  • Yazar burada kesin bir yargıdan kaçınıyor. Here the writer avoids making a categorical judgment.
  • Salon genişletildiği hâlde kapıda bekleyenler vardı; yapılan değişiklik herkese yer sağlamamıştı.Although the hall had been enlarged, people were waiting at the door; the change had not provided room for everyone.
  • Kurs ücretsizdi, ama otobüslerin seyrek geçtiği bir yerdeydi; ücret tek engel değildi. The course was free, but it was in a place with infrequent buses; the fee was not the only obstacle.
  • Yazar sayıları sıralamakla yetinmiyor, bu artışın günlük yaşamı nasıl etkilediğini de sorguluyor. The writer does more than list figures, also questioning how this increase affects daily life.

Watch out

A choice can repeat the text’s words but exaggerate its scope. A rise in attendance does not mean herkes (everyone) is satisfied. Conversely, bazı (some) does not mean everyone is dissatisfied. Notice the negative question çıkarılamaz: it asks for an unsupported conclusion.

Try it yourself

  1. Kütüphane yeni kitaplar aldı. Ancak kapıları saat beşte kapanıyor; mahalledeki çalışanların çoğu işten altıda çıkıyor. Which inference is best supported? Write the number or its Turkish ordinal. 1) Yeni kitaplar kimsenin ilgisini çekmemiştir. 2) Açılış saatleri bazı çalışanların yararlanmasını güçleştirebilir. 3) Kütüphane artık daha az kitap alacaktır.

    2 / ikinci

2 / ikinci: closing at five conflicts with a six o’clock finish for many workers. This supports a possible access problem; it tells us neither readers’ interest nor future purchasing plans.

  2. Atölyenin ücreti kaldırıldı, fakat katılımcı sayısı değişmedi. Atölyeye giden tek otobüs hâlâ günde iki kez geçiyor. Which inference is best supported? Write the number or its Turkish ordinal. 1) Ücreti kaldırmak tek başına yeterli olmamıştır. 2) Katılımı artırmanın tek yolu otobüsü değiştirmektir. 3) Atölyenin içeriği herkesi memnun etmiştir.

    1 / birinci

1 / birinci: attendance stayed the same after the fee was removed, so that change alone did not increase it. The rare bus service is a possible remaining obstacle, not proof of the only solution or of satisfaction with the content.

  3. Yeni uygulama işlemleri hızlandırıyor. Peki, ekranı kullanmakta zorlananlar ne yapacak? Girişte bir yardım masası olsa iyi olmaz mı? What does the writer aim to do? Write the number or its Turkish ordinal. 1) Yeni uygulamanın kaldırılmasını istemektedir. 2) Yalnızca işlem hızını övmektedir. 3) Uygulamanın destek hizmetiyle tamamlanmasını önermektedir.

    3 / üçüncü

3 / üçüncü: the question about a help desk suggests adding support for users who struggle. The writer acknowledges faster processing, so neither abolishing the app nor praising speed alone captures the purpose.

  4. Toplantı akşama alınınca katılım arttı. Yine de bazı üyeler eski saate dönülmesini istedi. Which conclusion CANNOT be drawn? Write the number or its Turkish ordinal. 1) Yeni saat bazı üyeler için uygun olmayabilir. 2) Yeni saat bütün üyeleri memnun etmiştir. 3) Katılım artışı herkesin memnun olduğunu göstermez.

    2 / ikinci

2 / ikinci: the request to restore the old time contradicts universal satisfaction. More attendance and reservations among some members can coexist; options 1 and 3 respect that distinction.

Use it today

For each task, write the option number or birinci, ikinci, üçüncü. Underline the evidence, explain why the other choices go beyond it, and write one fact the passage leaves unknown.
