Use cümle when discussing a sentence you are writing or reading. You will say what is in it, add or remove a word, and distinguish your sentence from someone else’s.
The idea
The stem cümle stays intact: cümleler, cümlede, cümlem. Its last vowel is e, so write cümleyi, not cümleyü. Compare cümleyi okuyalım (let’s read the sentence) with cümlesini okuyalım (let’s read his/her sentence): the second keeps possession before the object ending. In context, cümleleri can mean their sentence(s), his/her sentences, or the sentences as a direct object; use the surrounding words to decide.

Watch out
In Arkadaşımın cümlesini anlamıyorum, the sentence belongs to my friend and is what I do not understand. Stopping at cümlesi leaves out the object ending; replacing it with cümleyi loses the possessive link to arkadaşımın.
