Use müze for a museum you visit, work in or describe. Follow the same noun through cases and possession, then see why an art museum has a longer ending when it becomes your destination.
The idea
The final vowel of müze is e: write müzeler, müzeyi and müzemiz, keeping the stem unchanged. The initial ü does not control the ending. Compare müzeye (to the museum), müzede (at the museum) and müzeden (from the museum). In sanat müzesi (art museum), -si completes the noun compound; before a case ending, add n: sanat müzesine, sanat müzesinde. This -si does not imply a personal owner.

Watch out
Do not shorten “to the art museum” to sanat müzeye. Keep müzesi and add the destination ending through n: sanat müzesine. For “in our museum”, however, use müzemizde: the first-person plural possessive needs no extra n.
Try it yourself
Write the whole word: We have visited this museum before.
Show answer or example answer
müzeyi
müzeyi: bu identifies the museum that we visited. It is the specific object of gezdik, so the noun takes -i, joined to its final vowel by y.
Write the plural of müze: museums, without a number before the noun.
Show answer or example answer
müzeler
müzeler: the prompt asks for several museums without a number. The last vowel is e, so the plural is -ler; the earlier ü does not make it -lar.
Write the whole word: There is a new hall in our museum.
Show answer or example answer
müzemizde
müzemizde: bizim identifies the museum as ours, while the hall is inside it. Attach -miz and then the location ending -de; müzemiz alone would omit “in”.
Write the missing word: We are walking to the art museum.
Show answer or example answer
müzesine
müzesine: sanat specifies the type of museum, so retain the compound form müzesi. The verb yürüyoruz makes it a destination: add n and -e.
